"Ils s'aiment" inspired by TV footage of the war in Beirut, was Daniel Lavoie's first big hit single in Europe, reaching #2 in France and selling over two million copies.
Lavoie says that he originally wrote the song in English and that it took him months to come up with the French lyrics. It has since been covered by many French performers, as well as in Dutch, English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian versions.
